What is a Diffuser?
A diffuser is a home device that disperses water and essential oils into the air. Diffusing with essential oils, also known as aromatherapy, can offer a variety of health benefits.
Why the 'Diffuser' Problem Space?
Professionals in the health and wellness field, with moderate stress levels, use a diffuser to help them to unwind during their night time routine, to promote better quality sleep.

Key Findings
After synthesizing the data through affinity mapping, I arrived at 2 key themes to focus on for optimal impact:
Theme 1
User’s want convenience to improve their well-being
•
User’s have limited knowledge on how to use EO’s. Oftentimes, guesswork is involved in picking EO’s, to suit their needs. However, this leads to some hit’s and misses. They are open to learning, as long as it’s convenient and easy.
•
User’s are reluctant to clean their diffuser, b/c of the numerous times their diffuser has leaked in the past. They also have difficulty cleaning the essential oil residue inside.
•
User’s are more likely to integrate healthy habits that promote better well-being, and a better night’s sleep, if minimal effort is involved.

User’s like to be creative with their diffuser

User’s value customization for their diffuser, so that they can create custom experiences, to suit their needs.

Receptive to the idea of using an app with a diffuser, not only for the convenience, but for the opportunity to further customize their diffusing experience.

Opportunity
How might we
optimize the experience of using a diffuser
to support users with improving their overall well-being, while also fostering creativity?
Solution
With user insights in mind, I created and conducted an information architecture card sorting test with users, and iterated on it based on their feedback.
‍
Afterwards, I created wireframe sketches, and sifted out the promising ideas. And then created, tested out and made iterations to both lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes, based on user feedback, in order to come up with the final solution.
